Canva is a user-friendly graphic design tool that has grown in popularity among both professionals and amateurs in recent years. Its simple interface and extensive feature set make it an ideal platform for creating visuals for both online and offline use.

Canva, like any other software tool, has advantages and disadvantages that should be considered before deciding whether or not to use it. Here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly in Canva.

The Good

Canva is designed to be user-friendly and therefore easy to use. Some people may believe that you must be skilled at creating beautiful designs using certain software, but this is not the case with Canva.

Regardless of design experience, anyone can use this platform to create stunning designs. This is one of Canva’s best features. Canva is so simple to use that even inexperienced users can quickly create high-quality designs.

You’ll be able to create beautiful and professional images, videos, or presentations in no time if you use the power of this simple design tool.

The Bad

As easy as it is, Canva isn’t a one-stop shop, especially for experienced graphic designers. Canva excels at traditional web graphics, pdf or document-based design, presentations, and slideshows.

Canva, on the other hand, does not provide any software or tools for:

  • video editing
  • vector artwork
  • complex animation
  • serious photo editing
  • web design
  • audio editing

Now, although Canva can export SVG’s, they are not clean. If you’re a professional designer, it’s always best to combine using Canva and vector.

The vector in design refers to elements created with straight lines, such as text and shapes. It almost always prints much clearer images. Keep those vector elements intact when designing in Canva (you can still change colours to your heart’s content). When you’re ready to download your label design, make sure to save it as a Print PDF in order to keep the vector elements.

The Ugly

Most of the Canva users are students and small business owners who are leaning towards digital printing and selling. And some of the quality services that other graphic software offers and that the users need, aren’t all available in Canva.

If you’re creating a product label with a supplement or nutrition facts panel, you’ll need to import that image into Canva. And before you begin, you need to ensure that the file is set to a high resolution-800 dpi.

Printing quality is also important if you’re running printing design services. The complex hue of colour that you see in Canva right now might not be the same thing you’ll see when you print it in real life. Canva’s designs are created in RGB colour mode because it is an online design tool. But printing software uses CMYK colour mode. That’s why Canva now added a feature where you can save your file as CMYK for print.

Before submitting your designs to Canva, you can easily convert them to CMYK using an online CMYK conversion tool. Though Canva can convert your files from RGB to CMYK, it’s best to do so ahead of time and use other software first, so you can check for any colour or formatting changes caused by the conversion.

Canva is a powerful and easy-to-use design tool that can assist you in creating high-quality visuals for your content. However, as mentioned in this article, there are some limitations to the programme and its capabilities.

Canva could be the best on-the-go working platform with the help and mix-match of other software. Just keep on trying new things and have fun!
