Why Pinterest May Be Right for You and Your Business

With over 320 million monthly active users, Pinterest is currently one of the most popular social media platforms on the web. If you haven’t done so already, you should start considering how your business can leverage the unique benefits it provides.

But how do you know whether or not Pinterest is right for your business? Here are 3 questions to consider.

1. Is your business highly visual?

If you’re an artist, an interior designer, or if you own a landscaping company, Pinterest is a natural fit for you. With Pinterest, you have more chances of showcasing your products and services. Also, your pins don’t have to be your specific products/services – they just need to be related in some way.

2. Is your target market predominantly female?

71% of global Pinterest users are female [1].  So if your target market is predominantly female, you should definitely consider Pinterest as part of your online marketing strategy.

3. Do you have access to images?

To promote your content on Pinterest, you need to have images to pin. These images can be images or graphics created by you, professionally taken photographs, or stock images. Typically, professionally-taken images perform best on Pinterest since the platform is so aesthetically driven.

Tips to Help Your Business Find Success on Pinterest

Wondering how you can succeed on Pinterest? Here are some quick tips:

  • Set up a Pinterest Business profile for your shop/site.
  • Your perfect profile should include: what you do, how you help people/who you serve, on-brand profile photo and relevant keywords.
  • Create 10-20 boards related to your niche (e.g. Do you sell home decor? Create boards with helpful home organisation ideas, home productivity hacks, etc.) & pin 25-100 pins to each to establish a well-curated profile.
  • Your FIRST board should be all your content. Name it “Best of Your Shop/Blog”. Pin all of your items/posts here. Stuff your pin descriptions with related keywords & 1-3 hashtags.
  • Write a FULL description for each board. This means 2-4 sentences, & includes as many targeted keywords as possible.
  • Always create vertical Pinterest images.
  • The ultimate size for a pin is 735 x 1102.
  • Set up/apply for rich pins and/or buyable pins.
  • Always have a text overlay on your image that describes what your reader/customer can expect from the pin. Lists and numbers always do really well.
  • Apply to/join 10+ group boards and start pinning these images (THIS is the secret sauce!)

You’re looking for boards:

    • on a topic that relates to your business
    • that include pins that match your Pinterest profile aesthetic
    • with pins that have high re-pin numbers
  • Use Tailwind or Boardbooster to automate your pins & drive lots more traffic to your shop/site.
  • Utilise Tailwind Tribes to further optimise your pinning strategy & drive even more traffic.
